History
Born to
Mercian nobility, Sabre is distantly related to the royal family. He lived a comfortable, privileged life before The First Robotnik War. When Mercia evacuated its un-roboticized citizens to
Deerwood Forest, Sabre lost his status as a noble and was expected to act and work as a commoner.
Not taking kindly to this, and having been a particularly manipulative noble prior, he attempted to sell out the renegades to Robotnik’s soldiers. Found in his act of treason, Sabre was stripped of his nobility and banished, an act that would take a severe toll on his psyche.
Despite this, Sabre was able to fall in with a ragtag band of thieves, who he eventually betrayed and turned in to the local authority. With the bounty he received he was able to purchase a proverbial mansion in south eastern Northamer and live in relative obscurity for many years.
He gained a reputation as a dark romantic and womanizer, and the majority of the folks in nearby settlements knew to avoid him. Sabre grew lonely and wistful, often monologuing about how he might preserve himself forever and how miserable it was to grow old. This lamenting turned into obsession, as the only thing Sabre valued more than wealth was his looks.
In a bid to prevent himself from aging further, Sabre sought out a myriad of tomes, spellbooks, and pseudoscience journals. He learned of ancient nobles who had used blood to preserve their beauty and began luring inhabitants of the nearby villages into his mansion to drain them of their "life essence." He was never able to procure enough mobians at once to bathe in the blood, instead opting to drink it. This, however, took a toll on his health.
Desperate and delusional, Sabre grew more and more unstable. His deeds were eventually discovered and, for a second time, he was chased from his home and stripped of his privilege. This was the final straw; Sabre went on a killing spree, slaughtering many of the mobians from the village nearest his former mansion before, in an attempt to be rid of him, a mob burned the now-infamous building to the ground, hoping he would die inside.
Unfortunately for them, Sabre had anticipated their revenge, fleeing before the village could bring him to justice.
Present
Sabre joined up with SHIMMER when he realized his age was catching up to him. He no longer looked as beautiful as he once had, and this devistated him. In desperation he sought out anything that might aleviate the aging process. The AI agreed to help him if he promised his loyalty and prestige.
Originally, he had no intetnion of sticking around. Once SHIMMER had done it's work, he'd be gone like he always was. However, when Sabre realized just what the AI was capable of, he found himself having second thoughts. As long as he was in good with it he could stay young forever and regain his status as nobility. Really, what was there to lose?
Sabre's aggressive nature and tactical mind had him raising in the ranks in record time. He wasn't afraid to throw his weight around, so to speak, and the others who had come to SHIMMER (mostly refugees) had little ability in which to resist. When it was noticed that others revered him, SHIMMER reevaluated his status in its ranks, bringing him up to general.
As general, Sabre is elegant and diplomatic, often sweettalking his way into contracts and tricks. Anyone who isn't aware of his past find themselves surprisingly drawn to him, as he radiates a confidence only a narcissist could. Once he is given the order, or once his cover is blown, Sabre changes from an arrogant diplomat to a brutal killer.
Sabre takes great pleasure in torturing others, particularly women. He loves the chase, and will allow his enemies to escape just so that he might hunt them down. Once they're in his grasp, there's no getting out.
His emotional instability makes him both dangerous and easy to take advantage of.
